Who may apply?

 A.

Veterans Readjustment Appointment (VRA) or compensable disabled veterans:
     If you are applying as a veteran, you will need to have the following documents attached to your application.

  • DD-214 (MEMBER 4 COPY)
  • Letter from VA Regional Office (if receiving VA compensation)
  • Standard Form 15 (If applying for 10-point Veterans’ Preference)

 B.

Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEO)
Effective December 31, 1995, and in accordance with Public Law 102-568, Vietnam era veterans who have been separated from active duty for more than 10 years and who are less than 30% compensable disabled, no longer have eligibility to apply for vacancies under the Veterans Readjustment Appointment (VRA). However, effective October 31, 1998, and in accordance with Public Law 105-339, Sec. 3304, of title 5, United States Code, veterans who are preference eligibles or who have been separated from the Armed Forces under HONORABLE CONDITIONS after 3 years or more of continuous active service may apply for permanent positions under the Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEO). To apply, you must attach the following to your application:

  • DD-214 (MEMBER 4 COPY) and letter from VA Regional Office (if receiving VA compensation)

C.

Reinstatements

  • Form 50-B, “Notification of Personnel Action”. Must include the last SF 50-B issued.

D.

Executive Order

  • DA Form 5433-4 (Verification of Overseas Employment) or all SF-50B from overseas employment
  • Copy of Last Performance Appraisal

E. 

Transfers

  • SF 50-B (Must include last SF 50-B showing type of tenure)
  • Copy of last performance appraisal

F.

CTAP and ICTAP Eligibles:

  • A copy of RIF Notice or other documentation showing eligibility under the ICTAP program. Individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. CTAP and ICTAP eligibles will be considered well qualified if they attain an eligibility rating on the examination of 90 or higher, not including points for veterans’ preference.

G.

Any U.S. citizen

For your information:

  • All requested forms must be received by Human Resources Management Service (VA Medical Center, Temple, TX) by 4:00 p.m. on the closing date of the announcement.
  • Applicants should be advised that any applications accepted become the property of this Center and may be returned to the applicant or destroyed by burning or shredding. It is up to the applicant to contact this office, periodically, for current information regarding positions for which applications are being accepted.
  • You may apply for most jobs with either a resume, an OF 612 (Optional Application for Federal Employment), or any written format you choose. Resume must include beginning and ending dates of each job held. Additional documents are required as noted below.
  • Newly appointed or reappointed employees who are retired members of a uniformed service or applicants with prior non-Federal service,
    directly related to the position applied for, may receive credit toward annual leave accruals.
  • If qualified based on education, applicant must provide a copy of the transcript./li>
  • Physicians and applicants for associated health occupations (RNs, LVNs, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Pharmacists, etc.) must request special forms.

 

TYPING PROFICIENCY (if part of job requirement)

  • If you have previously worked for the federal government and have a SF 50-B with TYPING or OA as part of your job title, a copy of this form can be accepted in lieu of a typing test
  • If not previously employed and have not had typing or OA as part of your job title, a typing test is required. Applicants who do not possess a typing proficiency (no more than 3 years old) must schedule a typing test.
  • Certification of typing proficiency must be received by close of business on the closing date of this announcement.

If a typing proficiency is required, you may schedule your typing test by calling the Texas Workforce Commission (254-773-1607), 2420 South 37th Street, Temple, TX.

 

DRUG TESTING: All non-VA applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in any testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with the VA. A non-VA applicant will not be appointed to a position upon a verified positive drug test.

 

NOTICE OF SALARY MANDATE: All new Federal employees are required to receive Federal wage and salary payments through Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer (DD/EFT). Failure to coordinate and submit DD/EFT information the first week of employment will result in termination.

 

NOTE OF BACKGROUND CHECK MANDATE: All selectees will be required to complete an electronic SF-85, National Agency Background Check using the internet prior to first duty day. Failure to do so will result in termination.
