No Parking Necessary as VA Offers Drive-Through Seasonal Flu Vaccination - Starting Monday, October 29, 2012, through November 9, 2012, Veterans were able to get their season flu vaccination at one of the walk-in flu vaccination clinics at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) facilities in Temple and Waco. But on November 6 and 7, 2012, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Veterans can drive-through the Valet Parking area at the Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Medical Center in Temple, put their arm out of the window of their vehicle, and get their flu vaccination shot. VA Uses New Technology to Reduce Hospital Infections - In an effort to achieve "zero" hospital acquired infections, the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) will start using a new technology system --UV disinfection. To showcase this new technology system, a presentation highlighting its launch is set for Wednesday, October 31 at 10:30 a.m at the Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Medical Center in the Amphitheater. Central Texas Veterans Health Care System Launches Suicide Prevention Campaign - The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System continues its public education campaign in Central Texas as part of a national effort to reduce suicide. The campaign is designed to help people recognize the warning signs of suicide and to encourage Veterans in crisis and their family members or friends to call the Veterans Crisis Line, 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Across the country, someone dies by suicide every 17 minutes, accounting for more than 30,000 deaths annually. (08/15/2012)

Women Veterans to get “pampered” on Friday, October 21, 2011 - Thanks to the efforts of members of the Central Texas League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council #4746, Central Texas Federally Employed Women (CTXFEW), Central Texas Beauty College, and Central Texas Veterans Health Care System, 13 Central Texas women Veterans will be treated to a shampoo, hair cut and style plus a manicure as part of the “Pamper Our Vets” community outreach program on Friday, October 21, 2011. The first group of four women will arrive at 8:30 a.m. at the Beauty College for their “pampering” session which will include fruit trays, sandwiches, cup cakes, and a goodie bag filled with hand lotions, jewelry, toiletries and more donated by LULAC, CTXFEW, and CTVHCS Women’s Wellness Program. Waco VA offers seasonal flu vaccines at a drive-thru clinic on Wednesday, October 26th, 2011 - The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System launched its 2011-2012 seasonal flu vaccination campaign October 3, 2011, at all of its facilities in Central Texas. As a convenience to Veterans, a drive thru seasonal flu vaccination clinic is scheduled for October 26, 2011, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Waco VA Medical Center on Quarters Drive next to Building 19 (first right at the main entrance of the Waco VA Medical Center). VA to receive donation from third-grade philanthropists - When someone thinks about third graders, some of the first things that come into mind are bicycles, soccer, and just about anything fun. But, for one third grade class at Pirtle Elementary, their focus has been on recycling paper and aluminum cans to help the environment then deciding who they would give their proceeds to. After collecting 1,700 pounds of paper and 223 pounds of aluminum cans, this class of 44 philanthropists raised $150, not for their own school but for a worthy organization of their own choosing. Killeen Heights Vet Center delivering 131 Thanksgiving baskets to Veterans - Thanksgiving will be a little brighter this year for 131 Veterans and their families who are receiving a basket of food donated through the generosity of Veterans at the Killeen Heights Vet Center and donations from area businesses. The baskets are being delivered November 22 and 23 to needy Veterans. Each basked is filled with a turkey and all the trimmings to make a bountiful Thanksgiving family meal. (11/23/2010)

Ribbon cutting set for free legal consultation for Veterans - A ribbon cutting ceremony is set for Friday, Nov. 12, to celebrate months of coordination between the Central Texas Veterans Health Care Center and the Bell County Bar Association to provide free legal, pro bono consultation for area Veterans.
