ECHO Luncheon

August 1, 2013

50 additional HUD-VASH vouchers coming in November to help combat Veteran homelessness

The Ending Community Homelessness Coalition (ECHO) Veteran Task Force invites landlords, property managers and apartment locators to an informational luncheon Friday, August 9, 2013, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Edwards University to learn about the Housing and Urban Development- Veteran Affairs Supportive Housing program (HUD-VASH) voucher program.

The HUD-VASH voucher program is used to house our nation’s heroes to support the goal to end homelessness by 2015.The lack of safe and decent housing options has been identified as a major barrier to ending Veteran homelessness, so it is imperative additional Austin-area landlords are recruited to participate in this important program.
Currently, more than 250 Veterans are housed through the HUD-VASH voucher program.  In November, an additional 50 vouchers will be released in the Austin area.

The ECHO Task Force is composed of representatives from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), Austin Housing Authority, Caritas, Austin Downtown Community Court and Austin/Travis County Integral Care along with concerned citizens.  ECHO representatives meet routinely to actively strategize the best ways to effectively end Austin-area Veteran homelessness.  Council Member Mike Martinez and representatives from VA and the Austin Housing Authority will be available at the luncheon to speak with potential landlords and answer questions about the program.

Landlords, property managers and apartment locators interested in attending the informational luncheon should RSVP to Dylan Shubitz at 512-767-7621 by Wednesday, August 7, 2013.

Media wishing to attend should contact Deborah Meyer at (254) 534-2376.
