Killeen Heights Vet Center delivering 131 Thanksgiving baskets to Veterans

Thanksgiving will be a little brighter this year for 131 Veterans and their families who are receiving a basket of food donated through the generosity of Veterans at the Killeen Heights Vet Center and donations from area businesses. The baskets are being delivered November 22 and 23 to needy Veterans. Each basked is filled with a turkey and all the trimmings to make a bountiful Thanksgiving family meal.
"The Killeen Heights Vet Center started the Thanksgiving basket program in 2008 and delivered 22 baskets," reported Bob Gombeski, team leader at the Vet Center. "In 2009 the number of baskets increased to 55. But thanks to the hard work and dedication of our Veterans, staff, and the generosity of area businesses, 131 baskets will be delivered this year. It’s been amazing to see our Veterans work so hard to help their fellow Veterans who are in need during the holiday season."
The Thanksgiving basket drive is coordinated by Victoria Masih, one of the Killeen Heights Vet Center counselors with assistance from Lori Spencer, office manager, and Robert Higgins, office assistant. Ms. Masih said she is so proud of the Vet Center Veterans who help with this year long program contacting businesses and collecting donations for the baskets for fellow Veterans and their families who are in need.
The Killeen Heights Vet Center is located at 302 Millers Crossing in Harker Heights. The mission of the Vet Center is to serve veterans and their families by providing a continuum of quality care that adds value for veterans, families, and communities. Care includes professional readjustment counseling, community education, outreach to special populations, the brokering of services with community agencies, and provides a key access link between the veteran and other services in the U.S. Department of Veterans.
