Women Veterans to get “pampered” on Friday, October 21, 2011

October 19, 2011

Thanks to the efforts of members of the Central Texas League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council #4746, Central Texas Federally Employed Women (CTXFEW), Central Texas Beauty College, and Central Texas Veterans Health Care System, 13 Central Texas women Veterans will be treated to a shampoo, hair cut and style plus a manicure as part of the “Pamper Our Vets” community outreach program on Friday, October 21, 2011.  The first group of four women will arrive at 8:30 a.m. at the Beauty College for their “pampering” session which will include fruit trays, sandwiches, cup cakes, and a goodie bag filled with hand lotions, jewelry, toiletries and more donated by LULAC, CTXFEW, and CTVHCS Women’s Wellness Program.  Plus, each woman will receive a carnation flower courtesy of Precious Memories.  The second group of ladies will arrive at 1 p.m.

The initial idea for honoring the female Veterans started as a simple conversation between two CTVHCS employees interested in the wellbeing of women Veterans.  One employee, Sylvia Gomez, who is the President of the LULAC Council #4746 and Vice-President for CTXFEW, spoke with the President of the CTXFEW, Lillian Sifuentes, about partnering the two groups with CTVHCS to sponsor the “Pamper Our Vets” outreach program.   After just a few weeks, the organizations collaborated with CTVHCS and Central Texas Beauty College to coordinate Friday’s pampering sessions to honor the women Veterans who were selected from active CTHVCS programs in Waco and Temple.

“As employees of CTVHCS, we strive to give the best care to our military Veterans,” said Ms. Gomez. “That’s the purpose for this event; to show our Veterans we care, we are grateful for their sacrifices and dedicated military service. We want to do a little something to say, ‘Thank you’ from VA, Central Texas LULAC and CTXFEW.”

Ms. Edith Ingalsbe, Director of Central Texas Beauty College, and her students are donating their time and service to provide each woman Veteran with a haircut, style and manicure.

Central Texas Beauty College is located at 2110 South 57 Street in Temple.
