GI PROCEDURES

Location

Olin E. Teague Veterans Medical Center, Temple, TX

Teague Hospital, Building 204 (Valet Parking Entrance)

Take elevators by the piano in the lobby to 2nd floor

Go to desk 2G on the second floor to check-in

Please note: The following instructions are for Temple VA site only. If your procedure is being done at the Austin Clinic, please contact them directly for instructions.

Appointments

All GI Endoscopy procedures are scheduled through a consult from your primary provider.

Arrive at your scheduled report time. There is no need to arrive any earlier unless we have contacted you to.

Designated Driver

A driver is REQUIRED if you are receiving sedation for procedure.

You must have an adult driver check-in with you at your report time and stay until you are discharged to complete the procedure.

If you do not have a driver, your exam will be cancelled.

The driver of a driving service (VA shuttle, taxi, bus, Uber/Lyft) is not considered your driver. If you use one of these services, you must bring a responsible adult with you.

Medications

The morning of your procedure please take any medication for the following with a sip of water:

  • Heart
  • Blood pressure
  • Mood
  • Thyroid
  • Seizures
  • Anti-rejection

Blood Thinners

Blood thinners increase risk of bleeding. If you take any of the following blood thinning medications, please speak with the provider who manages the medication about when it should be stopped before procedure.

  • Clopidogrel/Plavix
  • Warfarin/Coumadin
  • Rivaroxaban/Xarelto
  • Dabigatran/Pradaxa
  • Apixaban/Eliquis

Females

If you are under the age of 60 and have not had a hysterectomy, you will be asked to submit a urine sample on the day of your procedure to verify you are not pregnant.
